The American Chess Academy, City of Glendale, in partnership with the California Chess Federation and dot818, is proud to announce that the California State Open Chess Tournament will take place in Glendale for the first time in its more than 30-year history. Set to run from August 29 to September 1, 2025, this landmark event will bring together 500 of the country’s top chess players, along with their coaches, families, and spectators, for five days of intense competition, strategic brilliance, and elite competition.

About the California State Open Chess Tournament

This Tournament has been a premier event for competitive chess players for over three decades, drawing top talent from across the country, and is known for its rigorous competition, high-caliber participants, and strong tradition of fostering chess excellence.

Location: Embassy Suites, Glendale, CA
Dates: August 29 – September 1, 2025
Open to: Players of all levels, from beginners to masters
Requirements: US Chess Federation membership required, Southern California Chess Federation (SCCF) membership also required for Southern California residents
Event Features: Prize funds, rated sections, special youth and amateur categories
Registration: Participants must register in advance to secure a spot
